Bears at Dusk

Donnie took us out to his work site. At dusk the bears come out. During the daytime when the tourists are out the bears tend to hide in the forest, but at dusk they venture forth and feed on salmon. This evening we saw at least eight bears, including two or three cubs. The spawning salmon are the real "draw" and we just observe from the trail.

Alex's Visit

Brother-in-Law Alex came up for a few days, spoke in our church, and enjoyed some sightseeing and fishing. He went back to Portland with a big box of fresh-caught Halibut and Salmon with a little Red Snapper to boot.

Jamin and Ken Starr

Jamin will continue to work with Ken Starr while in second year of Law school at Pepperdine U.. This is a privilege but hard work, too.

No more teenagers

Laura turned 20. She's heading to Grenada, Spain, to study Spanish until Christmas and then back to the U of Portland for nursing.

Around the Island

After three days in Honolulu I rented a car and cruised the island, swimming at 6 beaches, seeing the Dole plantation and staying at a golf resort although I don't play golf. Then off to L.A to see Jamin for a day.

AAhh! Hawaii

I flew to Hawaii on August 9 for 6 great days. Got a high-rise hotel room and changed into a t-shirt, shorts, and sandals. Then over to the beach where the water and sand were warm - not like Alaska. Then spent some time at the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial and the U.S.S. Missouri battleship where the Japanese surrendered in 1945. Great time.

Fourth of July

We watched the 4th of July Parade here in Ketchikan as the eagles and helicopters flew overhead, the floats and bagpipers cascading out of the tunnel, and tourists snapping pictures in the beautiful sunlight and blue sky.
