Dripping Church Picnic

Our August 21 picnic at Ward Lake was a wonderful, although wet, affair. We set up after a day and night of fierce rain which caused flooding; then the people gathered to praise the Lord under the shelter of the pavillion and canopy. After this we enjoyed food and fellowship and fun on the water in canoes and kayaks.

Alex and I fishing

Alex came up from Portland to preach, teach, and fish. A young man from church, Aaron, took us out on the water where we had a great time and caught some fish.

Laurie time in Juneau

I spent a few days in Juneau with Laurie. Great time! We went up the mountain in the cable car from where we climbed to the "cross". Laura made tasty cupcakes for the party with her "night shift nurses" friends, and all was topped off by a nighttime sightseeing tour over to Douglas Island complete with moonlit vistas.

wedding in louisville

We went over to Louisville for the wedding of Gordon (our nephew) and Christie and the mini-reunion with lots of others. The rehearsal dinner was great and the wedding itself beautiful followed by a wonderful reception at a beautiful golf course nearby.

trip south

Our time in the Cincinnati area was special. We re-connected with friends from "the old days" of the 60s and 70s. Over to Jack and Patti Boehlein's and were also greeted by Melissa Kitchen and Wernery (Lyons) and then over to Bob Evans restaurant where we met up with Marcella and Carl Tilford. And then back to Roy and Pat Turner's where we stayed for 4 nights with my best friend from youth. A great visit at the end of June.

Yacht time

We started out towing the little skiff and ventured past Naha to Traitors Cove. Tied up there and did some exploring plus "crabbing". Saw eagles, seals and other various wildlife.

On May 28 Donnie graduated "magna cum laude" from Law School in Portland. We had a little "mini-reunion" with Faith and Alex, Tim, Jada and family, and also some DeVos's and Rittacas from Medford. Great time!

In March Alex and I flew to Turkey for about 12 days of marvelous travel in the land of the New Testament. The Blue Mosque of Istanbul lit up the night. The Lone Pine Cemetery at Gallipoli had the name of Alex's Uncle who was killed in 1915. The mineral pools of Hierapolis have provided relief for the ancients as well as the "moderns." The Library of Celsus at Ephesus was built shortly after the Apostle Paul'v stay. The fantastic geological formations of Cappadocia provided shelter for Christians many centuries ago. A great trip!
