Fabulous Fishing!

Alex and Tim joined me on a fishing charter. The charter captain took us about 60 miles where we spent hours and hours trolling for salmon and going deep for halibut. I caught the largest fish, a halibut weighing about 90 pounds. We saw an island covered with sea lions (some of them aggressive and swimming out for a battle) and a large number of whales, Finback Whales and Humpbacks. A wonderful day!!

Back to Ketchikan on July 6, 2010

Devil's Tower and Pompey's Pillar

After Black Hills. . we went on to Devils Tower in Wyoming and Pompey's Pillar in Montana. The pillar along the Yellowstone River was named by Wm Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition after the young son of Sacajewea who accompanied them on the trip to the Pacific. Wm Clark etched his own name into the stone in 1806.

Fun in the Black Hills

Our way into the Black Hills was brightened by a large herd of buffalo blocking the road. Great beasts! Saw Mt Rushmore up close and Crazy Horse from afar.

Back West

We left Kerm and Donna's on June 30 heading back across Iowa, Nebraska and other states and Provinces.

Stopped at Boxholm. Iowa, where Sam's dad grew up. Checked out the homestead, now an empty lot. Visited the graves where five little aunts and uncles were buried after a scarlet fever epidemic. On to the old High School and even peeked in at the old gym where dad played basketball and was All-County Center in 1928.

Iowa Visit
